United Supermarkets LLC, dba The United Family, inched closer to 100 locations with the opening of a new United Supermarket in Wichita Falls, Texas.

The nearly 55,000-square-foot United grocery store at 2720 S.W. Parkway, which officially opened its doors in a grand opening event on Wednesday, marks the Lubbock, Texas-based grocer’s fourth location in Wichita Falls and 98th store overall.

United’s latest location occupies the site of a former Cash Saver supermarket, which closed in January 2019 after five years in operation. An Albertsons grocery store previously operated in the space, but when Albertsons LLC announced its acquisition of United Supermarkets in September 2013, the Federal Trade Commission required the sale of United stores in Wichita Falls and Amarillo, Texas, before the deal closed in January 2014.

“We are so excited and proud to be opening this new location in the Wichita Falls community,” Sidney Hopper, president of The United Family, said in a statement. “It is beautiful, spacious and full of some of the best United Supermarkets has to offer its guests. Not to mention, it is especially meaningful to our company to put a United Supermarkets store in this neighborhood and bring commerce back to an empty building.”

United described the new Wichita Falls location as a “next-generation” supermarket. Highlights include a fresh sushi bar; a selection of over 2,000 beers and wines, with a special section for Texas beers; a Texas kitchen and cafe; a Ready Meals section; and Streetside online grocery pickup and delivery service. The store also features full-service bakery, floral and meat departments plus pharmacy with a drive-thru window.

The chain also operates United banner stores at 4516 Old Jacksboro Highway and at 2522 Iowa Park Road as well as a Market Street supermarket at 4590 Kell Boulevard in Wichita Falls, a North Texas city. Another United grocery store operates just to the north in Burkburnett, Texas, near the Oklahoma border.
