Weis Markets Opens Fifth New Jersey Store
January 1, 2018
Weis Markets opened the doors to its fifth store in New Jersey in the town of Flanders. The 58,500-square-foot supermarket will employ 200 full- and part-time associates. To commemorate the opening, Weis Markets donated $10,000 to community organizations and charities in the Flanders area, and formerly cut the red Weis ribbon, flanked by local dignitaries. "This store in Flanders marks our first grand opening of the year, our fifth location in the state of New Jersey, and the 166th store in the Weis Markets chain,” says Kurt Schertle, executive vice president for Weis Markets. “We look forward to being a good neighbor and serving the local Flanders community with our affordable prices, welcoming atmosphere and large selection of products that will surpass customers' expectations." During the grand opening ceremony, Weis donated a combined $10,000 to Mt. Olive Baseball and Softball Association, Mt. Olive High School, Mt. Olive Food Pantry, Flanders Fire Department, Flanders Rescue Squad, Budd Lake Fire Department, Budd Lake Rescue Squad, Mt. Olive Carnival, Mt. Olive Park Project, Mt. Olive Robotics Team and Mt. Olive Library. The new store, located in the Sutton Plaza shopping center at 293 U.S. Highway 206, features expansive fresh departments, including a large produce department with a selection of organic fruits and vegetables, as well as a full-service pharmacy. The store also includes advanced refrigeration and climate control technologies designed to lessen the store’s impact on the environment and global warming. These technologies will reduce the store’s refrigerant usage by 60% compared to a conventional supermarket, say company officials. As a result, it is expected to achieve the U.S. EPA’s GreenChill Gold-Level Certification.
