WHOLE FOODS WILL OPEN EIGHT NEW STORES

AUSTIN, Texas -- Whole Foods Market here has laid plans to open eight more locations nationwide in fiscal 1997 and 1998.it being the company's first store in metro San Diego.Whole Foods said it added 21 stores in fiscal 1996, which ended Sept. 29. That included the acquisition of Fresh Fields, Rockville, Md.Upcoming store openings in the current fiscal year, the company reported, include the following:

it being the company's first store in metro San Diego.

Whole Foods said it added 21 stores in fiscal 1996, which ended Sept. 29. That included the acquisition of Fresh Fields, Rockville, Md.

Upcoming store openings in the current fiscal year, the company reported, include the following: in Philadelphia, scheduled to open in fiscal 1997's first quarter; in Wheaton, Ill., and San Rafael and Hillcrest, Calif., all slated to open in 1997's second quarter; and in Evanston, Ill., expected to open in 1997's third quarter. The Wheaton and Evanston units are replacement stores.

In fiscal 1998, Whole Foods plans to open new units in Manhattan, Philadelphia and Ridgewood, N.J.
