Confectionery recall hits industry hard

Another recall has put the market on red alert, as the Palmer Candy Company, based in Sioux City, Iowa, recalled its white-coated confectionery items due to a potential salmonella contamination.
The candy was distributed to Walmart, Hy-Vee, Target, Dollar General, and other stores across the U.S. as well as to distributors in 17 states. No illnesses have been reported.
According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the product comes in a variety of packaging including bags, pouches, and tubs.
Palmer Candy was put on notice by its liquid coating supplier that there was a potential for contamination with salmonella from an ingredient that was potentially contaminated from one of their suppliers.
Production of the product has been suspended while the FDA and Palmer Candy continue their investigation as to the source of the problem.
