Medication Therapy Management Included in AMA Billing Codes

Permanent bill coding nomenclature that pharmacists can use for reporting their medication therapy management services in health care claims is, for the first time, included in the American Medical Association’s Current Procedural Terminology manual for 2008, the Pharmacist Services Technical Advisory Coalition reported this week.

CHICAGO — Permanent bill coding nomenclature that pharmacists can use for reporting their medication therapy management services in health care claims is, for the first time, included in the American Medical Association’s Current Procedural Terminology manual for 2008, the Pharmacist Services Technical Advisory Coalition reported this week. Temporary MTM codes were assigned by the AMA in 2005. The coalition includes seven national pharmacy organizations and strives to integrate pharmacists’ professional services into the traditional medical services billing model.
