CINCINNATI -- Following a report this week that a Kroger pharmacist in the company‘s Atlanta division refused to sell the Plan B emergency contraceptive in December, the Associated Press reported yesterday that activists plan to call on Kroger Co. pharmacies to make the product available in all stores. The woman, Carrie Baker of Rome, Ga., said a Kroger pharmacist in her hometown refused to sell the contraceptive at a time after the Food and Drug Administration‘s decision to allow it to be sold over-the-counter. The activists plan a press conference for today, AP reported. “This is beyond a question of someone‘s values,” Dionne Vann, Georgia director of the National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League, told the AP. “This is an over-the-counter product that should be dispensed to women without any question.” While pharmacists from other channels have received publicity for refusing to dispense or sell Plan B, this is one of the first known instances involving a supermarket pharmacist, industry observers said.
