ST. LOUIS – Schnuck Markets is now offering 54 free generic oral antibiotics at its pharmacies. The retailer said yesterday it will be the first in its market region to do so. “You don’t have to be a regular customer; there is no co-pay and no required purchase. Schnucks will assume all costs,” said Michael Juergensmeyer, vice president of nonfoods and pharmacy. “The Schnucks free generic antibiotic program represents a significant investment in the communities we serve. Clearly, we hope to expose more customers to the convenience of our pharmacies, but it will also go a long way toward easing the burden on families and on the health care system in general.” The list of free generic oral antibiotics available in 21-day supplies at Schnucks currently includes amoxicillin, ampicillin, ciprofloxacin, doxycycline, erythromycin, penicillin and trimeth/sulfa. Pharmacists have increased inventories and are ready to fill all valid prescriptions. Meijer, Grand Rapids, Mich.; Publix, Lakeland Fla.; and Giant Eagle, Pittsburgh, also offer selections of free antibiotics.
