ORLANDO, Fla. -- Wegmans Food Markets, Rochester, N.Y., was honored with the Best Practices Award for excellence in the area of promotion and cross-merchandising at the Marketing of Magazines and Books: Retail Conference 2007, co-hosted by the Magazine Publishers of America and the International Periodical Distributors Association, both located in New York, here yesterday. The award was given based on adjacencies of books and magazines with related products such as cookbook spinner racks with cookware items, digest clipstrips with nutritional items, a health magazine rack near the pharmacy desk and the retailer's inclusion of magazines and books in its annual sponsorship of the LPGA, according to Todd Garland of Distribution Services Inc., Delray Beach, Fla. “We love promotions and cross merchandising,” said Donna Kittrell, general merchandise manager. “It helps us drive sales and excitement within our stores.” -- Wendy Toth
