Save A Lot partners with DoorDash for delivery

Retailer plans to add SNAP/EBT payments through delivery platform later this year

Low-price grocery retailer Save A Lot has begun partnering with DoorDash to deliver groceries to consumers, the two companies said.

The partnership has already rolled out to 400 of Save A Lot’s 750-plus locations, which are independently owned and operated. Last month, Save A Lot also said it had begun partnering with Uber Eats, which had begun offering delivery from 150 Save A Lot stores. Save A Lot has also partnered with Instacart for delivery for the past four years.

The move comes as DoorDash, which originally specialized in restaurant delivery and captures about two-thirds of the third-party restaurant-delivery market, has been adding more and more grocery retailers to its platform. Retailers that have launched or expanded their partnerships with DoorDash in recent months include Wakefern/ShopRite, Ahold Delhaize, and Giant Eagle, among others.

DoorDash began offering grocery delivery in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic and has since expanded into other retail categories, including convenience, alcohol, beauty, home improvement, and others.

In DoorDash’s most recent earnings conference call with analysts, Tony Xu, co-founder, chair, and CEO of DoorDash, said the company has seen three straight quarters of triple-digit growth in its grocery business. In addition, DoorDash began accepting SNAP/EBT payments last year, which has helped it expand its retailer partnerships, the company said.

Save A Lot and DoorDash said they expect to begin accepting SNAP/EBT payments through DoorDash at participating Save A Lot stores later this year.

To kick off the new partnership, DoorDash is offering 30% off all eligible orders of $50 or more through Sept. 30 at participating Save A Lot locations. Access to participating Save A Lot stores is also available on DoorDash’s membership program, DashPass, which offers free delivery and other benefits.
