Private-Label Gelato at Dorothy Lane

DAYTON, Ohio — Dorothy Lane Market here has introduced private-label gelato and sorbetto. Both are manufactured by a Cincinnati man who makes the Italian-style frozen desserts in small batches from Italian equipment and flavor bases imported from Bologna. Gelato is similar to ice cream, but has less fat and air. It is available in unique flavors like Mocha Chip and even Dorothy Lane’s most famous product, Killer Brownie. The sorbetto is similar to sherbet and is available in citrus and herb flavors; pink grapefruit is one popular variety.
