LOS ANGELES — Trader Joe’s Chickenless Crispy Tenders may be faux chicken, but it’s a real contender for the Best Vegan Meat Libby Award, an award given by peta2 — the children’s arm of the animal rights group PETA.
Trader Joe’s chickenless chicken is competing against Gardein Southern BBQ Riblets, Health Is Wealth Chicken Free Buffalo Wings and Tofurky Chorizo.
Meat-free appreciators can cast their votes on this category as well as other categories like Best Vegan-Friendly Restaurant Chain, through Facebook and Twitter. Romano's Macaroni Grill, Subway, Chipotle and Taco Bell are the restaurants vying for the vegan-friendly honor.
"More and more young people are insisting that the music they listen to, the clothes they wear, and, especially, the food they eat reflect their strong feelings in favor of animal rights," said PETA Youth Marketing Manager Emily Rodriguez in a statement. "All our nominees are winners because they're meeting the demands of kind kids and helping animals at the same time."
