United Supermarkets has leveraged the NuVal nutrition scoring system to encourage shoppers to switch to its store brands.

LUBBOCK, Texas — United Supermarkets has leveraged the NuVal nutrition scoring system to encourage shoppers to switch to its store brands.
Every Tuesday is dubbed “Trade Up Tuesday,” when it compares the NuVal scores of a national brand to its private labels.
Today, it compared Green Giant Broccoli and Zesty Cheese, which has a NuVal score of 25, to Food Club Chopped Broccoli, with a NuVal score of 100. “It's Tuesday, and that means it's time to Trade Up,” the retailer writes on the website livingwellmarketstreet.com. “This week, grab your mittens because we are opening the freezer doors and exposing the truth.”
Last week, it compared Yoplait Trix Yogurt, with a NuVal score of 32, to Food Club Light Vanilla Yogurt, NuVal 99. NuVal scores are calculated based upon beneficial nutrients per calories in a single serving. The higher the score, the better. Higher scores identify products with less sugar, less salt and fewer unfavorable oils; they contain more fiber from whole grains as well as vitamins and minerals from fruits and nuts.
