ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Wegmans here has unveiled 20 new store-brand dressings, including eight yogurt-based refrigerated varieties in produce, five vinaigrettes merchandised in Center Store and seven dressings that are used with its pre-packaged salads.

The dressings were created after product developer Chris Coffey attempted to meet customer needs that weren’t already being fulfilled.

“With about 345 different national and Wegmans brand [dressings] on the shelves, it was a daunting task, given the requirements: fresh taste, no preservatives or flavor enhancers like MSG or artificial colors, less sugar, kosher certification where possible, lower in total fat and calories when compared to other creamy dressings,” said Mary Ellen Burris, senior vice president of consumer affairs for Wegmans, in the retailer’s weekly flier.

Varieties include Curry Yogurt dressing, Sesame Ginger dressing and Balsamic Delight vinaigrette.
