JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Winn-Dixie’s private-label milk, orange juices, teas, Chek soda, Thrifty Maid beverages, Premium fruit drinks and Prestige ice cream flavors have joined nearly 1,000 other Winn-Dixie brand items that bear the kosher label. “Everything that Winn-Dixie produces itself in our plants is now certified by the Orthodox Union,” said Deborah Shapiro, specialty foods category manager for Winn-Dixie. In addition to two store-brand dairy plants, the retailer operates its private-label Chek beverage plant. Winn-Dixie also merchandises thousands of store-brand SKUs that are produced by a third party, noted Shapiro. “We encourage [outside] manufacturers to obtain kosher certification. Especially if the products we’re sourcing are really wanted in the kosher community, we push to find kosher suppliers.”
