Starting in January 2014, Independent Health members can receive a $1 store credit for every $2 spent on fresh fruits and vegetables at Tops. The maximum yearly reward will be $500 for a single plan and $1,000 for a family plan.

“As a local company, we are always looking for ways to help our neighbors make good nutritional decisions for themselves and their families,” Frank Curci, Tops Markets’ president and CEO, said in a statement. “We are proud to partner with Independent Health to bring this convenient, affordable and valuable benefit option to the western New York community.”

In western New York, where Tops is based, just one in four adults consume the recommended five or more servings of fruit and vegetables each day, according to Western New York Health Care Performance Measures.
