BOISE, Idaho — WinCo Foods here has opened a new distribution center — the chain’s second one here and its fourth overall — that will enable the discounter to expand its retail operations into Utah, according to published reports. Company officials could not be reached yesterday for comment.

According to the Idaho Statesman, WinCo's new facility is 750,000 square feet and will be used to supply stores in Idaho, Washington and Utah. The company will open its first two Utah stores next month, with plans for additional expansion there next year.

As previously reported by SN, the two stores are located in the Salt Lake City area — in West Valley and Midvale — with a third store scheduled to open in the same area in Roy, Utah, next spring. Stores are in the 94,000-square-foot range, the newspaper noted.

WinCo operates 67 stores in Washington, Idaho, Oregon, California and Nevada.
