Natural Grocers pushes local products

Promotions in Texas and Colorado will include sweepstakes and giveaways

Organic and natural retailer Natural Grocers is staging promotions in Texas and Colorado to spotlight local products while enticing shoppers to visit stores.

The fifth annual “Celebrate Texas Independence Day” event will include savings of up to 37% on Texas products from March 2-25. Lakewood, Colo.-based Natural Grocers operates 25 stores in Texas with an inventory of more than 1,200 local selections.

In addition, from March 2-4, all customers at Texas stores will receive a free Texas-themed, reusable shopping bag and commemorative sticker.

During that period, consumers also can enter a sweepstakes at stores for a chance to win a Yeti Tundra haul wheeled cooler; an Aventon Pace 500.2 e-bike; and a $500 Natural Grocers gift card.

In the second annual “Celebrate Colorado” event on March 3 (held on that date in honor of Colorado’s 303 area code), customers at 41 stores in the state will receive a free Colorado-themed reusable shopping bag and commemorative sticker along with discounts on local brands. Shoppers also can enter to win a $100 Natural Grocers Gift Card, with one winner per store.

Natural Grocers offers more than 2,500 products from Colorado brands with many on sale throughout the month.

The objective of the promotions is to celebrate customers and brands, tell the story behind local products and showcase high-quality discounted local products, Katie Macarelli, Natural Grocers manager of public relations, told Supermarket News.

“Though plenty of grocery stores run sales around holidays to encourage customers to come in, we often take these opportunities to educate our customers and / or showcase local brands,” she said.

The Texas and Colorado events are the latest in a steady string of promotions by Natural Grocers.

Next up is a sweepstakes from March 11-14 at all locations in which consumers can enter to win free coffee for one year (a $110 value) with one winner per store. A single grand prize winner also can win a weekend getaway for two at Lowes Ventana Canyon Resort in Tucson, Ariz. ($2,500 value)

Among the summer promotions will be a 68th Anniversary event in August.

Most recently, Natural Grocers staged a Valentine’s Day promotion on Feb. 14 that included the distribution of free Chocolove chocolate bars to shoppers that are members of the (N)power loyalty program.

Natural Grocers also provided Valentine’s Day-themed recipes, such as heart-shaped pancakes with organic strawberry puree, chocolate drizzled cherry macaroons, dark chocolate truffled brownies and heart beet cookies.

In addition, the grocer donated 1% of its Valentine’s Day sales to the Natural Grocers Heroes in Aprons Fund, which provides short-term financial assistance to employees or their immediate family members who have encountered severe economic hardship due to sickness, natural disasters, or other unforeseen circumstances.

Natural Grocers operates 166 stores in 21 states.
