STELLARTON, Nova Scotia — Sobeys has launched its first set of private-label seafood products certified to the Global Aquaculture Alliance’s Best Aquaculture Practices standards for farmed seafood, according to a GAA announcement.

“Sobeys is actively engaged in industry initiatives on sustainable seafood,” Shawn McMurter, national procurement director for meat and seafood for Sobeys, said in a release. “We support the BAP certification standard and are pleased to begin using it on a number of our private-label products.”

BAP certified facilities comply with a set standards outlined by the GAA that focus on issues such as effluent management, worker safety, mangrove swamp conservation and biodiversity protection.
