MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — Coupons Inc. here yesterday announced it has acquired Consumer Networks, a privately owned venture of Gannett Co., Tribune Co. and the Copley Press. Through the deal, Coupons Inc. will now handle Consumer Network’s Boodle service, distributing printable coupons from major consumer brands to over 550 newspaper websites. “We’re excited to be working directly with the nation’s leading newspapers, and to bring the entire suite of integrated Coupons Inc. services to this rapidly growing audience,” said Steven Boal, chief executive officer, Coupons Inc., in a statement. “Newspapers deliver almost 90% of the 384 billion coupons distributed each year. As consumers shift their media consumption online, newspapers’ sites are the natural place for them to turn for savings.” Last quarter, more than 59 million people in the U.S. visited newspaper websites, according to Nielsen/NetRatings.
