STELLARTON, Nova Scotia — Sobeys here has chosen to implement Safefreight Technology's trailer temperature monitoring and fleet management system, Safefrieght, Edmonton, Alberta, announced yesterday. The Smartfleet technology will be deployed on 90 trailers in the Sobeys fleet that delivers temperature-sensitive food products to 189 retail store locations and three distribution centers in Western Canada. The system can track vehicles by location, audit inventory movement between distribution centers and store locations, and monitor up to three temperature zones within refrigerated transport trailers. In addition to temperature monitoring, Sobeys will also be monitoring the open/closed status of trailer doors to determine if temperature-sensitive food shipments have been exposed to any potentially unsafe conditions en route. The system also provides online reports on working hours and idling time, trip details, stop/go activity and vehicle history. The value of the three-year contract is approximately $290,000.
