FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Wal-Mart Stores, Bentonville, Ark., announced last week that the Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club Foundation is donating $1.5 million to the University of Arkansas here to help researchers find ways for businesses to be more environmentally friendly, according to a report in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. The gift will be used to fund an Applied Sustainability Center, which will work on ways to reduce fossil fuel used in making products and to reduce waste in agriculture and food production, such as finding new methods to transport food. The center will also develop training programs for Wal-Mart buyers, suppliers and other decision makers, the report said.
