SALISBURY, N.C. — Food Lion banners and Bottom Dollar Food stores participated in Earth Hour Saturday by dimming their Center Store lights for an hour. All stores remained opened during this time.

“Our participation in Earth Hour is a part of our overall work as a leader in energy reduction initiatives and environmental stewardship,” said Robert Canipe, senior vice president of corporate development and corporate responsibility for Food Lion, in a statement.

This is Food Lion’s third year of participation. Store associates were encouraged to participate at home by turning off non-essential lights and taking all appliances off of standby.
