EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market here, the U.S. arm of Tesco, is reporting energy usage per square foot that is 32% lower than the industry average across its 130 stores, according to Minneapolis-based Verisae.
Fresh & Easy uses Verisae's energy, environmental and asset management solutions in all locations, which are observing about a 30-gigawatt-hour reduction in annual energy usage when compared with the industry average. Fresh & Easy's store designs — upgraded lighting systems, skylights and energy-free glass doors, for example — work in concert with Verisae's Sustainability Resource Planning platform.
“We have designed our stores to be as energy efficient as possible. And using less energy in our stores is not only good for the environment, it also helps us lower our customers’ food bills,” said Steve Hagen, director of procurement, engineering and maintenance for Fresh & Easy, in a statement.
