This year, SN presented its Sustainability Excellence Awards in two locations. In September, at the Food Marketing Institute’s Energy & Store Development Conference in Phoenix, Technology & Operations Editor Michael Garry gave Rod Peterson, manager, national procurement, for Sobeys, Stellarton, Nova Scotia, his company’s award in the chain category, and Neil Kudrinko, owner of Kudrinko’s, Westport, Ontario, his company’s award in the independent category.
Last month, our Los-Angeles-based Retail/Financial Reporter Elliot Zwiebach presented Al Plamann, chief executive editor of Unified Grocers, and other Unified executives their company’s award in the wholesaler category at Unified’s headquarters in Los Angeles.
The three winning companies were recognized for exceptional leadership in promoting a sustainable environment through such initiatives as energy conservation, renewable energy, improved refrigeration, waste reduction, recycling, product design and transportation efficiency. The annual awards program, in its fifth year, was sponsored this year by Fleet Advantage.
