MATTHEWS, N.C. — Harris Teeter here, along with Charlotte, N.C.-based Coca-Cola Consolidated, the City of Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, and six Mecklenburg County towns (Matthews, Pineville, Mint Hill, Davidson, Huntersville and Cornelius) yesterday announced a yearlong public/private initiative, Recycle and Win, designed to increase recycling throughout the area.
Beginning on Feb. 2, Coca-Cola will send an educational mailer to all 271,000 single-family households in Mecklenburg County that features the “Do’s and Don’ts of recycling,” along with an opportunity to win a $50 Harris Teeter gift card for correct recycling practices.
The educational mailer contains a sticker, which residents can place on their recycling bins; if the Coca-Cola “Recycling Prize Patrol” sees the stickered bin, the resident will qualify for the gift card. The patrol plans to award 10 gift cards per week, for a total of 520 prizes throughout the year.
“Rewards like these are instrumental in building positive recycling habits,” said Rod Antolock, executive vice president of operations and merchandising for Harris Teeter, in a statement. “I know our fellow citizens will take advantage of this campaign.”
