PHOENIX — Sprouts Farmers Market began encouraging shoppers to BYOB (bring your own bag) here yesterday. As part of its new BYOB program, customers will receive 5 cents off their total bill for each plastic grocery bag they bring to the store and reuse during a single transaction. Sprouts will also continue its sales of “Sprouts Green” canvas bags, which sell for 99 cents each. The chain has sold more than 180,000 to date. “Sprouts is committed to do our part for the environment by reducing the number of plastic bags used in our stores,” said Doug Sanders, chief operating officer and senior vice president, Sprouts Farmers Market, in a statement. “We are always looking for ways to partner with our customers to help the environment and would like to reward those that recycle their plastic bags and contribute to a positive ecological impact.”
