Estimated North America consumables sales of $14 billion in the recently ended (December) fiscal year largely reflects assumptions of year-over-year organic growth of 43.5% in sales to about $8.9 billion from AmazonFresh and other Amazon online grocery and consumables sales initiatives as well as an estimated $5.1 billion gain from the first four months of operation of 466 U.S.-Canada brick-and-mortar stores owned by Whole Foods Market which was acquired by Amazon in late August. Supermarket News has based its latest Amazon consumables sales model on research by Planet Retail/RNG whose estimates helped inform SNês 2017 Digital Top 10 sales numbers including the scenario that Amazon saw fiscal 2016 U.S. –supermarket-type” product sales of about $6.2 billion. Building on that the SN model considered the quarterly –Insights” reports on Amazon consumables sales from One Click Retail which pegged third-quarter fiscal 2017 sales of such goods in the U.S. alone at nearly $2.5 billion. One Click Retailês research and data suggested that Amazon grocery sales including Whole Foods online sales but not brick-and-mortar sales contributions likely topped $2 billion in the U.S. alone in the recently completed fiscal year. Amazon.com had estimated 2017 worldwide sales of $176.41 billion up 29.7% from reported fiscal 2016 sales of $135.99 billion with estimated or reported fiscal 2017 and fiscal 2016 North America sales of $104.59 billion (+31.1%) and $79.79 billion respectively. Whole Foods Market which previously was part of the Top 75 roster on a pro-forma basis showing results as a freestanding public company and from its first month of ownership by Amazon said it had North America and United Kingdom sales of $16.03 billion for the 12 months ended in September 2017 from 461 U.S.-Canada stores and nine stores in the U.K. which was up 1.9% from $15.72 billion in its preceding fiscal year.
