BATAVIA, Ill. — Limited-assortment discount grocer Aldi will include guideline daily amounts on its Fit & Active private-label line of better-for-you products by January. GDA values, or “Fit Facts,” will be noted on the bottom right-hand corner of each Fit & Active package.
Fit Facts include four standard nutritional facts based on the USDA’s recommended daily allowances of calories, fat, sodium and sugar. Fit & Active products will also feature supplemental information, including “good source of vitamins and minerals,” “good source of fiber” and “no trans fats.”
“Consumers’ growing demand for healthier choices is a significant opportunity for us, and we’re proud to offer products to support families’ active lifestyles,” Joan Kavanaugh, Aldi’s vice president of corporate purchasing, said in a statement.
Introduced in 2004, Fit & Active includes 58 items. Fit & Active sales increased about 30% in 2007 compared with the previous year and are projected to grow another 30% in 2008. The average retail price for Fit & Active products is $1.99.
