Center store insights: Online competition soars

Late this summer, Supermarket News conducted its 14th annual Survey of Center Store Performance. Not surprisingly, respondents cited online retail—and the growing threat of limited-assortment discounters like Lidl—as competition to center store sales. Those results and more are covered in this year’s survey.
How we did it: SN’s 14th annual Survey of Center Store Performance was conducted online Aug. 23-Sept. 10. It was emailed to nearly 50,000 subscribers of Supermarket News and its email newsletter, and promoted online.
SN received 169 completed surveys, of which 37% were completed by food retailers, 5% from food wholesalers, 30% from manufacturers, 11% from sales agency and 17% by consultants and other respondents.
