Vilsack Appoints Giant’s Schupper to Dairy Advisory Committee

Robert Shupper, dairy category manager for Giant Foods, Carlisle, Pa., has been appointed to the federal Dairy Industry Advisory Committee by Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, in addition to 16 other members.

WASHINGTON — Robert Shupper, dairy category manager for Giant Foods, Carlisle, Pa., has been appointed to the federal Dairy Industry Advisory Committee by Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, in addition to 16 other members.

Over the next two years, the committee will review the issues of farm milk price volatility and dairy farmer profitability and consolidation, and offer suggestions on ways the U.S. Department of Agriculture can best address the needs of a struggling dairy industry.

Representatives will include producers and producer organizations, processors and processor organizations, handlers, consumers, academia, retailers and state agencies involved in organic and non-organic dairy at the local, regional, national and international levels.

Members representing state governments, academia and consumers include Rodney Nilsestuen (Wisconsin), Andrew Novakovic (New York) and Paul Bourbeau (Vermont).

Producer members are Erick Coolidge (Pennsylvania), Timothy den Dulk (Michigan), Debora Erb (New Hampshire), James Goodman (Wisconsin), James Krahn, (Oregon), Edward Maltby (Massachusetts), Manuel Souza (California), Ed Welch (Minnesota) and James Williams (Georgia).

Representatives from the processing industry include Jay Bryant (Virginia), Patricia Stroup (California), Sue Taylor (Colorado) and Robert Wills (Wisconsin).
