Gourmet A’Fare, a new supermarket serving a remote but fast-growing pocket of Brooklyn, N.Y., had a soft opening over the weekend.

Khalid Immab, a representative of owner the POM Group, said the 11,000-square-foot store in the Greenpoint neighborhood is the first of two stores the group plans to open under the Gourmet A’Fare banner: A second in the Lefferts Gardens neighborhood will open later this year, he said.

The Greenpoint store is located at the north end of Manhattan Avenue and occupies the ground floor of a new 210-unit apartment building that opened a year ago, one of several new residential complexes going up within a few blocks expected to bring thousands of new residents within walking distance of the new store.

Immab said the store would be supplied by Associated Supermarkets and United Natural Foods. He said the company was planning grand-opening ceremonies.
