LAKELAND, Fla. — Publix Super Markets is launching a free online ordering system for customers to pre-order sliced meat, cheese and custom subs.

Customers can designate a pickup time and order online, through smartphones or in-store ordering devices. Shoppers that order online will be given a pickup number and then will pay in-store. There will be an "online easy pickup" sign designating the pickup area in deli departments.

Publix will launched an online ordering pilot at a Lakeland store on Aug. 3 and will roll the program out to 50 more stores this year. There is no minimum order price.

“As we continue to provide our customers with the service they have grown to expect, we strive to offer new services that enhance their overall shopping experience,” said Maria Brous, Publix director of media and community relations, in a press release. “Publix Deli Online Easy Ordering is a natural extension of our service commitment, especially for our on-the-go customers.”
