NEW YORK — Westside Market NYC, a four-unit, family-owned supermarket in Manhattan, is now offering grab-n-go meals for kids.

The retailer introduced the meals to celebrate National Nutrition Month this March.

Officials aim to help busy parents provide fresh, ready-to-go and easy-to-carry meals for their children. They’re looking to provide an easy substitute for school cafeteria lunches, often seen as not so healthy.

“Nutritious” is the by-word here, but fresh food shown on the company’s website — some of it fresh fruit and tempting-looking sandwiches — looks not only healthful, but tasty. The colorful visuals certainly would appeal to kids as well as to their parents.

Sending their children off to school with a Westside Market NYC boxed lunch is intended to give parents confidence that their child has an appealing nutritious meal at hand at mid-day.

Each lunchbox, retailing for $7.99, contains a freshly prepared sandwich made with a choice of Applegate Farms deli meats (ham, turkey or chicken) and cheese (Swiss, cheddar or American) on white or whole wheat bread; fruit: apple, pear or orange; two homemade cookies freshly baked on premises using the family recipe: oatmeal raisin, chocolate chip or M&M'S; and a choice of juice: apple, orange or grape.
