TYLER, Texas — Brookshire Grocery Co. last week said it has made several executive changes: John Penn has been named senior vice president, retail projects; Pete Leung has been named senior vice president, Brookshire's Food Store operations; Mike Terry has been named senior vice president of Super 1 Foods operations; Russ Cooper has been named senior vice president, general counsel and secretary; Trent Brookshire has been named vice president, District 10 manager; and Linda Wiggins has been named vice president, sales events. Penn, a 43-year company veteran, was formerly senior vice president, Brookshire's Food Store operations, and will oversee the company's upcoming retail efficiency study. Leung, formerly senior vice president-Super 1 Foods operations, will assume Penn's duties. Terry will assume Leung's duties. Cooper had served as vice president, general counsel, secretary for the past two years, and is a 13-year company veteran. Brookshire had been a store director and most recently was district manager. Wiggins is a 35-year employee who most recently was vice president, deli/bakery operations.
GIANT-LANDOVER NAMES SAMPSON SVP
LANDOVER, Md. — Giant of Landover last week said it has hired Shane Sampson as senior vice president, operations and sales. He reports directly to Robin Michel, president, Giant of Landover. Prior to joining Giant, Sampson was vice president of merchandising and marketing at the Texas/Louisiana division of Albertsons LLC. He previously had been vice president of operations there, and before that had been president of Albertsons' Florida and Intermountain divisions. He also had been a regional sales operations manager at Sam's Club. “Shane brings just the right combination of experience, skills and commitment to excellence in management and customer service to our leadership team,” Michel said in a prepared statement.
PROULX TO JOIN USC FOOD PROGRAM
LOS ANGELES — Mike Proulx, who left his position as president and chief operating officer of Bashas', Chandler, Ariz., in September, has agreed to become a lecturer in the Food Industry Management program at the University of Southern California here, Bob Hermanns, the new FIM director, told SN. Proulx, who graduated from the USC program for middle managers in 1997, said joining it “will provide a great opportunity for me to share my industry experience with the incoming class.” Separately, the Lakewood, Calif.-based Western Association of Food Chains said Mike Stigers, president of PW Markets, San Jose, Calif., has been elected secretary to replace Proulx at the association.
DOHERTY, SCHOLZ TO LEAD FIAE IN 2010
PALM SPRINGS, Calif. — Food Industry Association Executives at its annual meeting here this month elected Linda Doherty as vice chair for 2010. Doherty, president of the New Jersey Food Council, would become chair of the group in 2011. As expected, Brandon Scholz, who had been vice chair in 2009, was named chairman of FIAE for 2010. Scholz is president of the Wisconsin Grocers Association. FIAE is an organization that represents state and national grocery associations in an effort to share information and best practices among association executives.
