SCARBOROUGH, Maine — William Homa, Hannaford Bros.' longtime chief information officer, will be leaving the 165-store company July 1, Hannaford said. A successor at the Delhaize-owned chain has not yet been named. “We are actively working on a transition,” said Michael Norton, company spokesman. Homa told SN that he's “looking to work for another retailer and help them build a world-class supply chain and IT infrastructure.” Homa, who joined Hannaford as CIO in 1996, has helped the chain implement a number of advanced technology applications, such as computer-assisted ordering, a Linux-based POS system and IP telephony. His departure follows the recent high-tech theft of credit card numbers from the company's computer systems, but a spokesman for the banner said the incident and Homa's departure are unrelated. Separately, Hannaford last week said it had promoted Tod Pepin to senior vice president, supply chain. The 28-year Hannaford veteran had been vice president of fresh merchandising.

GIANT PROMOTES ADAMS TO SENIOR VP

CARLISLE, Pa. — Giant Food Stores here last week said it has promoted Gerry Adams to senior vice president of real estate and construction. He will be responsible for overseeing the company's strategic growth and construction efforts as well as for managing the day-to-day activities of the real estate and construction teams. Adams, who has more than 24 years of experience in real estate development, joined Giant in 1999 as vice president of real estate. Prior to that, he served as vice president of real estate for Supervalu in Atlanta and also worked in Wal-Mart's real estate department.

GMA TAPS MARCOOT FOR SUPPLY CHAIN

WASHINGTON — The Grocery Manufacturers Association here has announced the appointment of Michelle Marcoot as director of supply chain, and the promotion of Jeanne Iglesias to senior director of supply chain and technology. Marcoot formerly served as senior director of member services at the Corporate Executive Board, where she managed leadership groups on technology, innovation and supply chain issues. At GMA, she will manage supply chain activities, including day-to-day activities of the logistics and direct-store-delivery committees, as well as the supply chain vanguard group. Iglesias will have primary responsibility for GMA's supply chain and technology practice.
