SALISBURY, N.C. — Food Lion here has promoted Carol Herndon to chief financial officer and chief administrative officer and Robert Canipe to senior vice president of corporate development. The chain had not had a CFO, a spokeswoman told SN. Herndon will be responsible for all corporate development, which includes real estate, store development, mergers and acquisitions, construction, maintenance, equipment procurement and energy management. She will continue to have senior leadership responsibility for accounting and analysis, as well as information technology. Canipe will assume senior leadership responsibilities for real estate, construction, maintenance, store equipment procurement and energy management. He will also serve as a member of Food Lion's executive committee. Herndon joined Food Lion in 1989 as a financial controller. She most recently was chief accounting officer for Delhaize America, Food Lion's parent company. Canipe joined Food Lion in 2001 as director of strategic and business analysis. He has also served as vice president of business strategy and vice president of dry category management. He worked for Proctor & Gamble Co. from 1990 to 2001.
LOBLAW'S FOOTE NAMED ZELLERS CEO
TORONTO — Mark Foote, who recently resigned from Loblaw, has been named president and chief executive officer at Zellers, the Canadian mass merchandiser, according to Hudson's Bay Co., Zellers' parent company here. Foote most recently served as president and chief merchandising officer of Loblaw but left the company in a management restructuring in April. Prior to that, he spent more than 20 years at retailer Canadian Tire, eventually becoming its president. Foote will begin his duties with Zellers this month.
