BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Haggen Inc. here last week said it has promoted two executives: John Boyle was named group vice president of sales and marketing, and Becky Skaggs was named vice president of marketing and strategy. Boyle will assume the responsibilities of Dave Norton, who is retiring as senior vice president of sales and marketing, effective Sept. 11, the company said. He joined Haggen two years ago as vice president of corporate brands. Skaggs, a 16-year veteran of the chain, will assume responsibility for the marketing and advertising departments. She had been promoted last year to vice president of strategy and consumer insights. Haggen Inc. operates 33 stores in Washington and Oregon under the Haggen Food & Pharmacy and Top Food & Drug banners.

SAFEWAY ADDS TWO NEW DIRECTORS

PLEASANTON, Calif. — Safeway here last week said it has appointed Arun Sarin and Michael S. Shannon to its board of directors, expanding the board to 12 members from 10. Sarin most recently was chief executive officer of Vodafone Group, a mobile phone company. Shannon founded private-equity group KSL Capital Partners in 2004 and its predecessor, resort operator KSL Recreation Corp., in 1992. “We are fortunate to have individuals with these credentials joining the board,” said Safeway Chairman, President and CEO Steve Burd, in a prepared statement. “Arun and Michael have each run substantial businesses, and their experience will be valuable to our board.”
