BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Dale C. Henley, president and chief executive officer of Haggen Inc., said last week he plans to retire by June 30. He had been CEO since 1996. Henley said he intends to become non-executive chairman of the board and continue to serve as president and CEO of Briar Development Co., the chain's real estate arm. Haggen has launched a nationwide search for a successor, the company said. Henley will turn 65 next May and said he wants “time to relax and pursue other activities.” Haggen operates 34 stores in Washington and Oregon with 2008 sales of $844 million.

SUPERVALU TAPS HUFF FOR NEW POST

MINNEAPOLIS — Supervalu here said last week it has promoted Brian Huff to senior vice president of specialty retail, a newly created post overseeing the company's bigg's, Cub Foods, Farm Fresh, Hornbacher's, Shop 'n Save and Shoppers Food & Pharmacy divisions. Huff, who most recently was president of the Cub Foods banner, will report to Pete Van Helden, who recently was named executive vice president of retail operations as part of a management realignment. Huff, 50, joined Supervalu in 2003 as vice president of merchandising at Cub Foods and was named president in 2005. Before joining Supervalu, he was vice president of merchandising at Sam's Club, and he has also held positions at Price Chopper, Bruno's and Metro Food Markets. Supervalu said a successor to Huff as president of Cub Foods will be named at a later date.

NASSHAN, JONES NAMED SVPS AT BI-LO

MAULDIN, S.C. — Bi-Lo here last week named Bill Nasshan senior vice president of merchandising and marketing, and promoted Anthea Jones to senior vice president of store operations, effective immediately. Nasshan succeeds Larry Stablein, who served the same role on an interim basis since late last year. Stablein will remain with Bi-Lo in a consulting capacity, the company said. Nasshan previously served as senior vice president of marketing and merchandising at Shaw's Supermarkets, and has also served in executive roles for Borders Books and Dominick's, where he began his career in the grocery industry. Jones most recently served as Bi-Lo's group vice president, Center Store. He has more than 25 years' experience in the grocery industry, and began his grocery retail career at Food Lion, where he was director of store operations. Jones will be responsible for operations and Bi-Lo Charities.

RILA TAPS WARREN AS TAX POLICY VP

ARLINGTON, Va. — The Retail Industry Leaders Association last week said it has named Mark Warren vice president for tax policy. He most recently had been deputy assistant secretary to the U.S. Department of the Treasury, Office of Legislative Affairs, where he advised officials on legislative matters concerning tax, pension, Social Security and economic policy.
