WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — Hy-Vee here said last week that Tod Hockenson has been promoted to vice president, distribution, and will take over the company's entire inbound and outbound delivery efforts, effective Oct. 1. Hockenson, a nine-year member of the company's distribution team, currently directs the efforts of Hy-Vee's Cherokee, Iowa, distribution center, where he recently oversaw a $13 million, 230,000-square-foot expansion. He succeeds Fred Housman, who is retiring as vice president, distribution, after 37 years with Hy-Vee. “Tod has exhibited an outstanding leadership style in overseeing our Cherokee operation,” said Ric Jurgens, chief executive officer, Hy-Vee.

PENN TRAFFIC CFO TO JOIN FAIRWAY

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Penn Traffic Co. here said last week that Tod A. Nestor, senior vice president and chief financial officer, will leave the company effective Sept. 18 to become the CFO of Fairway Market, the New York-based specialty grocery chain that has been expanding into the suburbs. Eric Sattler, formerly Penn Traffic's controller, was named vice president of finance and will assume Nestor's duties on an interim basis while the company searches for a permanent successor, Penn Traffic said. “Over the last two years, we've assembled a talented and experienced grocery and retail management team,” said Gregory J. Young, president and chief executive officer, in a prepared statement. “Together, we've made extraordinary strides in stabilizing the business, enhancing our merchandising and marketing strategies, strengthening our balance sheet, improving our cost structure, and resolving the company's major legacy legal issues.”

ROBERTS JOINS LOBLAW COS. AS SVP

TORONTO — Loblaw Cos. here has hired Jeremy Roberts as senior vice president of finance, according to reports last week. He had been chief financial officer of Montreal-based World Color Press, the printing giant previously known as Quebecor World. His resignation is effective Oct. 5, the reports said. Roberts also will be senior vice president of finance for Loblaw parent company George Weston Ltd. Loblaw could not be reached for comment last week.

WEIS NAMES THREE DISTRICT MANAGERS

SUNBURY, Pa. — Weis Markets here last week named three new district managers, including a leader for its newly acquired stores in Broome County, N.Y. Mike Neal, the company's former district manager in northeastern and central Pennsylvania, was named district manager for Weis' 11 Broome County stores. Brian McAfee has succeeded Neal as northeastern and central Pennsylvania district manager, overseeing 17 stores in Wilkes-Barre, Bloomsburg and Sunbury. McAfee joined Weis in March from Price Chopper, where he managed its stores in the Scranton-Wilkes-Barre region. Dave Fisher was promoted to district manager and will oversee 16 stores in western Maryland and West Virginia. Fisher most recently served as a Center Store specialist for Weis.
