KELLER, Texas — Minyard Food Stores here said yesterday Mike Byars has resigned as president and chief executive officer, effective immediately.
His successor is Ron McDearmon, who has been with the company 44 years and was formerly senior vice president, distribution and strategic product logistics.
The company said Byars' departure has been anticipated since last summer, when the company sold all but about 20 of its stores to Grocers Supply Co., Houston, "to deal with the tough economic and retail enviroment."
Byars joined Minyard in 2005 after an investment group purchased the chain from the Minyard family in 2004, when it was a 70-store, three-banner company. He was named CEO in 2006. Since the sale of 37 stores last summer, the company said he has been involved in developing and implementing a transition plan for the smaller group of stores that remain.
