MINNEAPOLIS — Supervalu here said last week it has named Julie Dexter Berg executive vice president and chief marketing officer, effective March 15. She will succeed Steve Michaelson, who left to pursue other opportunities, Supervalu told SN. Berg most recently was managing partner at Brandmaking, a Bellevue, Wash.-based brand and customer-strategy consulting firm. Before forming Brandmaking in 2004, Berg was executive vice president and chief marketing officer at MediaOne in Englewood, Colo., and before that had CPG marketing and brand management experience at Carnation Co. and Nestlé Foods. She reports to Craig Herkert, president and chief executive officer, Supervalu.

HENDERSON IS SOUTHERN FAMILY PRES.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Max T. Henderson Jr. has been named president of Southern Family Markets effective immediately, the retailer here said last week. Henderson assumes all responsibility for the 66 stores SFM operates under the Bruno's, Food World, Southern Family, Piggly Wiggly and SFM Liquors banners. Henderson, a 28-year industry veteran, had most recently been consulting for SFM. His prior experience includes executive posts at Tops and at Ahold banners Giant-Carlisle and Edwards. Southern Family is a division of C&S Wholesale Grocers, Keane, N.H.

WEIS NAMES THREE REGIONAL VPS

SUNBURY, Pa. — Weis Markets here last week said it had named three new regional vice presidents responsible for overseeing its 164 stores. The regional vice president title is a new designation at Weis, officials said. The new VPs are Jerry Hatch, Brad Kochenour and Mike Mignola. Hatch most recently was a regional director overseeing stores in the Northeast and central Pennsylvania. In his new role, Hatch will be responsible for stores extending from Sunbury, Pa., to Binghamton, N.Y. Kochenour will oversee a region extending from Altoona, Pa., to Newton, N.J., including Harrisburg, Pa., and the Lehigh Valley in Pennsylvania. Prior to his promotion Kochenour was a regional director for Weis stores in Altoona and State College, Pa., and Harrisburg. Mignola will oversee stores in Maryland and West Virginia, as well as stores in Lancaster and York, Pa. Mignola most recently was a general manager for Weis stores in Maryland and West Virginia.

COSTCO NAMES JELINEK PRESIDENT

ISSAQUAH, Wash. — Costco Wholesale Corp. here said last week it has appointed Craig Jelinek as president and chief operating officer. Jim Sinegal will continue as chief executive officer. The company said it will form an office of the president that will include four executives who will coordinate major company matters: Sinegal; Jelinek; Jeff Brotman, chairman; and Dick DiCerchio, senior executive vice president. Jelinek, who has been with Costco for more than 25 years, was previously executive vice president, merchandising.
