Carnival Cruise Line executive Jim Heaney has joined The Fresh Market as chief financial officer.
Heaney took the CFO reins at the Greensboro, N.C.-based specialty grocer yesterday, succeeding Oded Shein, who has resigned after just over two years in the role.
Most recently, Heaney (left) spent more than five year as CFO and executive vice president of professional services at Carnival Cruise Line, the world’s largest cruise ship operator.

His 30-year career also includes three years as CFO for Sea World Entertainment, overseeing the company’s financial organization, and 17 years at Disney, where he played a key leadership role in launching and growing Disney’s cruise business, The Fresh Market said. Before Disney, he served as finance manager at Royal Caribbean Cruises.
“On behalf of the board of directors, I am very excited to welcome Jim to The Fresh Market team,” CEO Jason Potter said in a statement. “Jim has an exceptional track record in hospitality and finance and is a proven executive, with significant experience in operational turnarounds and private equity-held businesses.”
Shein came to The Fresh Market in August 2018 after more than seven years as CFO at Stage Stores, a Houston-based department and off-price store retailer. Prior to that, he held financial VP roles at retailers Belk and Charming Shoppes.
“The Fresh Market thanks Mr. Shein for his service as CFO over the last two years and offers him best wishes in his future endeavors,” The Fresh Market stated.
Specializing in fresh, organic and natural food and groceries, The Fresh Market operates 159 stores in 22 states.
