Weis Adds Two in Benefits, Construction

Weis Markets here said Thursday it has hired two new staffers, one to oversee compensation and benefits and the other to oversee construction.

Marie T. Underkoffler has joined Weis as director of compensation and benefits, a newly created position. She will oversee day-to-day administration and implementation of the company’s compensation and benefit programs. She reports to Jim Marcil, Weis Markets’ senior vice president, human resources.

Prior to joining the company, Underkoffler was senior manager, applications and labor wage compliance at Rite Aid Corp., Camp Hill, Pa.

James Murphy

Weis also named James C. Murphy director of construction. He will oversee the company’s day-to-day construction activities for its stores, distribution center and manufacturing facilities.

Prior to joining Weis, Murphy was a construction project leader at San Antonio-based H-E-B. Earlier in his career, he worked in store development positions at Petsmart, Wal-Mart and Tyson Foods.

Weis operates 165 stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, New York and West Virginia.
