Ackerman Joins D.C. Food Bank Board
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Peter Ackerman, the founding investor behind online grocer FreshDirect, was appointed to a three-year term on the board of directors of the Capital Area Food Bank here, the nonprofit group said Thursday.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Peter Ackerman, the founding investor behind online grocer FreshDirect, was appointed to a three-year term on the board of directors of the Capital Area Food Bank here, the nonprofit group said Thursday.
The appointment comes as FreshDirect prepares to expand into the Washington area "soon," the food bank said. FreshDirect was launched in New York City, where it is based, and recently expanded to Philadelphia.

Ackerman is managing director of Rockport Capital, a private investment firm, and is the founding chair of the International Center on Nonviolent Conflict. He is also involved with several other nonprofit groups, including serving on the board of the Council on Foreign Relations.
"Peter will be a great addition to the Capital Area Food Bank's board of directors,” said Nancy E. Roman, president and chief executive officer of the CAFB. “I have known and worked with him over the years and can attest to his philanthropic commitment. His vast knowledge of global issues is impressive, as well as his work at the local level with FreshDirect.”
