BOISE, Idaho — Albertsons LLC here said yesterday it has added fashion and style to the otherwise plain reusable shopping bags it sells by offering them in a variety of bright colors — black, turquoise, pink, yellow and blue — using the theme, “Green comes in many colors.”

The bags include the slogan, along with an abstract leaf design and a small version of the chain’s logo. “Our customers are becoming more aware of environmental issues, but often the plain bags are left at home or forgotten in the car,” Bob Butler, senior vice president of marketing, said. “We’re excited to offer more than the usual generic bag — these totes are fun and something our customers can be proud to carry.”

The totes will continue to sell for $1. However, as part of a one-week promotion, customers of the chain’s Florida stores can receive a free bag with the purchase of select items; and in the Dallas-Forth Worth, Southwest and Rocky Mountain regions, they can get a free bag with a minimum purchase.

At Albertsons’ 84 stores in the Dallas-Fort Worth market, consumers can also opt to purchase a special-edition reusable tote for $1.99 featuring Jason Witten, the Dallas Cowboys’ tight end, with a portion of each sale going to the Jason Witten SCORE Foundation, which funds organizations that help children impacted by domestic violence.
