PHOENIX — The union representing grocery workers at Fry’s and Safeway stores in Arizona said it was “likely” it would call a strike against the retailers if a contract agreement is not reached by this Friday.
United Food and Commercial Workers Local 99 here said it set the strike date after making “no new progress” over four days of negotiations last week. The union, which represents around 20,000 workers, said its last contract extension expired Oct. 31. The sides are reportedly divided over health care.
