BJ’s Wholesale Club’s Scott Kessler announces resignation

BJ’s Wholesale Club’s Chief Information Officer Scott Kessler is stepping down, effective May 26.

In the wake of the news the retailer said it was still seeing eye-to-eye with Kessler in terms of company operations, policies, and practices. Kessler came over to BJ’s Wholesale Club, headquartered in Malborough, Mass., in 2018 to replace a retiring Peter Amalfi. Prior to the move, Kessler was an executive vice president and chief information officer at department store retailer Belk.

BJ’s Wholesale Club is coming off a record first quarter in 2023. The retailer’s set new marks in net income at just over $116 million (it was just over $112 million in Q1 2022) and adjusted EBITDA, which stood at just under $256 million (vs. just under $221 million in 2022).

In early May the retailer announced that its board of directors had appointed President and Chief Executive Officer Bob Eddy as chairman of the board, effective June 15. Eddy will succeed Chris Baldwin, who will remain on the company’s board as a director. Eddy, who has served on the board of directors since 2021, joined the company in 2007. He was named executive vice president and chief financial officer in 2011 and served as executive vice president, chief financial, and administrative officer from 2018 to April 2021 when he was appointed president and chief executive officer.
