C&K Seeks Cell Phones So Troops Can Call Home
BROOKINGS, Ore. — To enable troops to call home, C&K Market here, in partnership with Cell Phones for Soldiers, is asking local residents to donate "gently-used" cell phones that will be recycled by Mindful eCycling.

BROOKINGS, Ore. — To help troops to call home, C&K Market here, in partnership with Cell Phones for Soldiers, is asking local residents to donate "gently-used" cell phones that will be recycled by Mindful eCycling.
Last year the chain collected 1,033 cell phones, which were recycled in exchange for 61,980 minutes — more than 1,000 hours — of free talk time. C&K said its goal this year is 1,500 phones.

The recycled phones will be donated to the Oregon National Guard and the 235th Engineer Co., a National Guard unit located in Petaluma, Calif.
Cell Phones for Soldiers, based in Norwell, Mass., was founded in 2004 as a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing cost-free communication services to active-duty military members and veterans. Funds raised from the recycling of cell phones are used to purchase pre-paid international calling cards.
