FreshDirect Expands to New Markets

NEW YORK — Online grocer FreshDirect here said it has expanded its delivery service to 123 new ZIP codes in the Northeast, including its first service in Delaware.

NEW YORK — Online grocer FreshDirect here said it has expanded its delivery service to 123 new ZIP codes in the Northeast, including its first service in Delaware.

On Monday the company began distributing to customers in 15 ZIP codes in New Castle County, Del., and the cities of Wilmington, Newark, Bear, Claymont, Hockessin and Yorklyn. In addition to entering the state of Delaware, FreshDirect will begin delivering to 25 ZIP codes throughout Rockland County, N.Y., and an additional 83 new ZIP codes throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

"At FreshDirect our business model is based on our unique farm-to-table offering and convenient service structure, and we're thrilled to be able to expand this promise to new customers in the state of Delaware and beyond," said Jason Ackerman, FreshDirect cofounder and chief executive officer.

The largest expansion area includes 58 ZIP codes in New Jersey, serving Bergen, Essex, Mercer, Middlesex, Morris, Passaic, Somerset and Union counties in northern New Jersey and Camden and Gloucester counties in southern New Jersey. Other areas include ZIP codes in Chester, Delaware and Montgomery counties in Pennsylvania.

The company, which operates a large warehouse in the borough of Queens, last year expanded to the Philadelphia market and has been extending its reach from a depot there.
