King Kullen Workers Strike, Then Return

Workers in the meat and seafood departments at a handful of King Kullen stores went on strike briefly over the weekend, according to United Food and Commercial Workers Local 342.

MINEOLA, N.Y. — Workers in the meat and seafood departments at a handful of King Kullen stores went on strike briefly over the weekend, according to United Food and Commercial Workers Local 342, based here. Workers at stores in the New York City borough of Staten Island walked off the job, but returned to the job on Sunday. On Sunday, workers at four stores on Long Island were striking, but had returned to the job as of yesterday, a spokesperson for the union, who asked not to be identified, told SN. At issue is a contract covering 360 workers throughout the 51-store chain that expired Oct. 31, 2007.
